Well, it's that special day of the year again. That's right ladies, it's time to break our the adoring chocolate, love letters, and rented barbershop quartets...and send them on over to this guy's house:
That's right, it's Greg "The Hammer" Valentine day!
Greg Valentine, born John Anthony Wisniski Jr. in 1953, was a well known wrestler in the 70s, 80s and 90s. He became known for a "deadly" top rope elbow drop called the Hammer Drop, and had promotional tapes of him breaking wooden boards with his elbow that were shown to the audience before his debut.
He feuded with Chief Wahoo McDaniel over the NWA Mid-Atlantic Heavyweight Championship, breaking Wahoo's leg during a match with a leg/ankle suplex. He then began to wear t-shirts with the words "I broke Wahoo's leg" on the front and "No More Wahoo" on the back.
(Already, can there be any question why we have devoted an entire day to a man of such greatness? I think not.)
When he later joined the WWF, he was managed by The Grand Wizard. His gimmick was that he was a wrestler who broke the legs of all his opponents. Years later, he was managed by Captain Lou Albano, who many will recognize as Mario from the Super Mario Brothers Super Show.
Valentine would also team with The Honky Tonk Man as the team Rhythm and Blues, and after rejoining the WWF in 1993, wore a mask and called himself The Blue Knight. His signature move was actually attaching his shinguard (called the "Heartbreaker") to his arm to add illegal power to his elbow drops.
On March 13, 2004, Valentine was inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame.
Greg Valentine, on this, your special day...we salute you!
