This is a sports post, so if you don't care about sports DALE, you can skip this entry.

At San's urging, I actually checked the final results of my work hockey pool. The last time I checked (about a week ago) I was in 5th and had kind of given up. But I actually came in 2nd, which I think might get me my entry $40 back, at least. So that's cool.

Speaking of the NHL, man oh man what a year for rookies. Of course there was Ovechkin - 50 goals!? - and Crosby. But what about freaking Dion Phaneuf? Hell, he had 20 goals, which is TONS for a D-man, let alone a rookie. 16 of them were power-play goals, and 7 were game-winners. And it was the 2nd most goals scored by any defenseman, only 1 behind Detroit's Mathieu Schneider. He was also 3rd on the Flames in scoring.

It's a hard choice between those three. But there were tons of other good rookies this year. It just shows how talented the freshman pool was when you consider that Marek Svatos, with 32 goals in only 62 games, wasn't even really in the running.

Speaking further of the NHL, the playoffs is almost upon us, which means PUCK YOU is back in operation! Technically it's been in operation this entire season, but no one really used it. Unfortunately since Nick's Canucks are out, he'll probably refuse to write anything out of bitterness. And also unfortunately, stupid BC TV stations will probably show like two Flames games the entire playoffs.

Roger: What's with the little devil guy?
Karen: He's a Fast.
Roger: A what?
Karen: A Fast, like from the Volkswagen commercial?
Roger: ...never heard of it.'
Alan: (comes over) Oh I've seen these. It's one of those Pokemon isn't it?
Karen: No, it's a Fast! Don't you people watch TV? It represents your inner fast, your inner...speed personality, and stuff! It's a Fast!
Lisa: Hmm...nope, still don't know what it is. I never watched Pokemon.

Today's the last day of the NHL season, and to quote what must be going through the heads of Todd Bertuzzi and the rest of the Vancouver, "Well, fuck." Of course, that's also going through my head since my once-mighty hockey pool team has fallen from 1st, where it reigned for much of the first half of the season, to a shameful 4th. But at least my adopted team has done well - the Flames clinched their division title the other night. And unlike bandwagoners who jumped on during their playoff run last year, I lived in Alberta for a year so I earned the right to cheer for them.

Plus, I just really hate the Canucks.
